Exal Corporation Signs Agreement to Sell European Division to Ardagh Group

 

YOUNGSTOWN, OHIO, January 3, 2012 - - Exal Corporation, the world’s largest producer of extruded aluminum containers, has announced it has signed a Sale and Purchase Agreement to sell its European Division to Ardagh Group in a transaction involving a total consideration of approximately EUR85 million. The sale is contingent upon a number of conditions including anti-trust approval and is expected to be finalized in the first half of 2012.

Alcoa and Exal Win Prestigious DuPont Diamond Award for Packaging Innovation

Exal’s Coil-to-Can® Technology and Alcoa’s Aluminum Bottlestock Sheet Winning Combination for Sustainable, Lightweight Beverage Container

PITTSBURGH & YOUNGSTOWN--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Alcoa Inc. (NYSE:AA) and Exal Corporation announced today that the lightweight, sustainable Coil-to-Can®, or “C2C”, aluminum bottle made from Alcoa’s bottlestock sheet and Exal’s C2C manufacturing technology won the top honor, a prestigious Diamond Award, in the 22nd annual DuPont Awards for Packaging Innovation. The DuPont Awards are the packaging industry’s longest running, independently judged competition, honoring packaging materials, technology and service innovations.

Diamond Award winners are those determined to demonstrate excellence in innovation, sustainability and cost/waste reduction by the judges, comprised of global packaging executives, industry experts and consultants, and industrial designers. This year 160 entries from around the world competed, and the Alcoa-Exal team was one of only two Diamond-level winners.

Exal Wins International Can of The Year Award   
Sweeps Aluminum Bottle Category

Exal Corporation took the top honor and swept the Beverage Bottle category at the Cans of the Year Awards held on October 28th in Dubai, UAE.  The annual international event was hosted by CanMaker Magazine (Sayers Publishing Group), a leading trade publication for the metal container industry.  The awards recognize and celebrate innovative, groundbreaking work within the metal packaging industry.

Exal Corporation (USA) took the event’s top honor of Can of the Year for its innovative, lightweight, sustainable aluminum bottle for the Eska brand of still and sparkling water for Eaux Vives Water.  The bottle, which also took the Gold Award in the Beverage Bottle category, was manufactured using Exal’s evolutionary Coil-To-Can (C2C) technology.  These awards represent the latest in numerous honors the Eska package has received this year from business and trade organizations.

Exal Creates Innovative Aluminum Bottle for New Beverage
Vuka’s functional beverage line launched in distinctive container

Alcoa and Exal Combine Efforts to Promote Water Purification System New Technology to Be Unveiled at G-20 Summit

(Pittsburgh,PA & Youngstown,OH)--Alcoa (NYSE: AA), the world leader in the production and management of primary aluminum, and Exal Corporation, the world’s leading manufacturer of specialized aluminum packaging, have joined together to help promote newly developed water purification technology set to be introduced prior to the G-20 Summit. The event was held at the Carnegie Science Center on Wednesday, September 23.

With aluminum supplied by Alcoa, Exal utilized its revolutionary Coil-To-Can (C2C) aluminum container technology to create a promotional bottle for Pittsburgh-based Project Eviive. During the meeting of world leaders, the non-profit group will use the aluminum bottle to help unveil a system that it believes will alleviate the world’s growing fresh water crisis. The water purification technology, developed by Epiphany Solar Water Systems, utilizes solar energy to distill unclean water in a way that is simple, inexpensive, and sustainable.

EXAL CORPORATION WINS PRESTIGIOUS METAL DECORATING AWARD

(Youngstown, OH)   Exal Corporation has received the 2009 “Best In Category” Quality Award for Excellence in Metal Decorating from the International Metal Decorators Association (IMDA).   Competing in the Miscellaneous Products category, the container Exal developed for Boulevard Brewing’s Unfiltered Wheat Beer was the only aluminum bottle package to be honored at the IMDA Annual Convention held in Chicago on May 20 – 23 of this year.
