The Emergence of C2C, a Story of Sustainability
EXAL made its first investment in C2C technology in 2001 and since that time has invested more than $30 million USD in proprietary technology that marries the manufacturing speed and light weighting of standard beverage can technology with the dynamic shaping technology of impact extruded container manufacturing. When aluminum beverage bottles were first introduced, existing manufacturing processes were neither high speed nor efficient, limiting the use of aluminum bottles to short runs and promotional bottles. In 2008, EXAL’s C2C technology addressed cost and also sustainability limitations of aluminum bottles with commercial success. With C2C technology, EXAL is able to produce lightweight aluminum bottles made from 50-60% post-consumer recycled aluminum content that are resealable without plastic sleeves. The internal can liners are also environmentally friendly and 100 percent BPA free.
Aluminum is an infinitely recyclable material, meaning that a recycled aluminum bottle can become an aluminum bottle again without a loss in package performance. In terms of sustainability, aluminum bottles and cans are very desirable in the recycling stream as the use of recycled aluminum requires only five percent of the energy required to manufacture virgin aluminum. C2C realizes the intrinsic benefits and sustainability of aluminum packaging. Lighter weight aluminum bottles also results in fewer carbon based transport emission throughout the entire supply chain.
